When I first created the Colors YouTube channel and started adding content, I thought it would just be something cool to put on your computer. But as the channel grew, people have used my content in unexpected ways. In this post I will go over some of these and show you how to display the content on your various devices. Note, that there are some affiliate links, but any purchases do support the channel directly.
Big Screen TVs
One of the most popular places my videos (and web-based generator) are used is on the big screen TV. YouTube commentators have have written that it’s used during celebrations, house parties, or small gatherings. Some have used the Disco Lights video at parties, while several have mentioned that they put the Rainbow Flag video on their TV to help the come out. Others have used the Green Screen video as an actual green screen for making films, and users have even used it to fall asleep!
If you want to watch our videos on the big screen there are several ways.
1. Use the YouTube app on your Smart TV
A somewhat obvious way is to simply use the YouTube app on your Smart TV. Most newer TVs have the YouTube app built in, so just navigate to the Colors channel and pull up any videos that you might like. This will allow you to view the videos in full screen. For the web-based generator it’s a little tricky, so you’ll either have to use your TV’s web browser or refer to method #3, casting.
2. Turn your TV into a Smart TV
If you don’t have a smart TV, there are still several ways to get this content on your TV.
You can turn your TV into a smart TV by buying one of the popular devices: Amazon’s Firestick, Roku’s Streaming Stick, or one of the Apple TV devices. These devices plug directly into your TV’s HDMI port usually located in the back of the TV.
3. Cast Your Device to your TV
If the 2 method above don’t work then you can buy a device that will let you connect (or “cast”) your Smartphone or computer up to your TV. One popular device is Google’s Chromecast, but there is also the highly-rated Miracast.
These devices work similar to the “sticks” in method 2, but you’ll have to install an app on your phone in order to cast it to your TV.
Zoom Calls
More recently with more people working from home, my videos have been used as background animations on Zoom calls. In order to do this you can follow the tutorial on the Zoom website. Some organizations don’t allow videos as backgrounds, so check with your IT administrator to see if it’s enabled.
Here is part of the tutorial from the Zoom website:
- Sign in to the Zoom desktop client.
- Click your profile picture, then click Settings.
- Select Virtual Background.
Note: If you do not have the Virtual Background tab and you have enabled it on the web portal, sign out of the Zoom Desktop Client and sign in again. - Check I have a green screen if you have a physical green screen set up. You can then click on your video to select the correct color for the green screen.
- Click on an image to select the desired virtual background or add your own image by clicking + and choosing if you want to upload an image or a video.
